Welcome to my blog!

Just doing my best over here to chronicle my chronic condition with alliteration, humor, and a whole lot of spoons!

The perfect lake day

The perfect lake day

Today (July 17th) I woke and really needed to commode. My mom came in and helped me and said what a beautiful day it was; it’d be perfect for swimming in the lake day.

Secretly for some unknown but awesome turn of events these past months (here’s looking at you COVID and a broken ankle!!) I felt clear headed with only a few manageable symptoms! I didn’t say anything because I knew that would jinx it.

So after eating a later breakfast (v typical for me because I don’t get up until 11), we got my suit on, and lubed me up with sunscreen. We were finally ready to go!

This is a two person job so it was my dad’s turn. He pushed me down the ramp, and I jumped into the side by side. By jumped I obviously mean stepped up cautiously without my right leg buckling, it’s hard. But, I was in such a good place all I thought about was that water.

So down we went to the lake! Waiting for us was my mom with some towels and floats, the ramp to the dock, and the stairs to get in. It’s usually kind of daunting because the harder it is to get in, the more difficult it is to get out. Today though I didn’t feel it.

Down the ramp, no problem. Ready to take on the stairs. Right bend, hold, left step. This is my walking motto now as I do little walks inside of the house. Anyways, I shuffled down those stairs. I would say fast, but I’d be lying. It was very controlled my mom behind me guiding my right foot to the step because sometimes it does it’s own thing and floats away.

Once I was in, it was literally perfect. We played catch and walked a little. Then we floated and it was glorious! I had to make myself say I needed to get out, and my parents loaded me and our stuff.

The rest is like a rinse and repeat from the first part of the story, only add a little exhaustion.

That brings me to now. Currently laying in bed with the shades drawn. Again, I’m not too symptomy to get this documented! I for sure will remember this for the times I get my ass kicked by symptoms and in the winter! Hopefully I’ll keep getting some lake time in again soon!

A great picture of the dock, my wheelchair, the ramp, and side by side.
